THE ENDS OF THE UNIVERSE... AND BEYOND

Written by Margaret
Watching anything my parents would
I saw a world full of aliens and monsters, heroes and mad-men In their trek through space
I warped amongst the stars
And they sent me to the ends of the universe
And beyond
I joined in on all the quests they made wishing I could fast-forward through commercials
So that nothing could stand between me and the Gamma Quadrent
But a plate of glass and fiber-optic cables
Showing me all of my heroes
Who went to the ends of the universe
And beyond
But life grew up way too fast
And left me far behind
With a dog-eared Starlog magazine in my hand a bunch of kids laughing in my face
And me wondering if pointed ears
Were worth the ends of the universe
And beyond
So I picked my dignity up off the floor denied the existence of warp drive
With my pseudo fingers gently crossed behind my back
The magazine in the back of my closet with an unfinished letter to a long dead man who went to the ends of the universe
And beyond
On the weekends I watched all the old tapes
Doors locked tight, curtains drawn
With the remote held tightly in white-knuckled hands lest anyone come in the room and I had to turn off the set
That had sent me to the ends of the universe
And beyond
One day watching the news
Seeing that old bones do die
With the tears held back, block up the lachrymal tear duct
For the elegant pipeline
Would surely betray me
And a flood of salt-water would show I still pine for the ends of the universe
And beyond
Help me, please, if you will I need to get back to the days when all I needed was a Galaxy class starship
With the name Enterprise tattooed on her forehead And a couple of funny looking ears
To send me to the ends of the universe
And beyond..........
